Daniel Cormier facing Jeff Monson at Strikeforce this Saturday on Showtime

Former two-time Olympic wrestler Daniel Cormier (7-0) will go to battle with former UFC heavyweight title contender and Abu Dhabi submission wrestling champion Jeff "Snowman" Monson (42-11). This will be the toughest opponent yet for the Lafayette native in his skyrocketing MMA career. The fight is part of the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix card this Saturday night on Showtime, and if Cormier is victorious he will continue get big named opponents and quickly gain contender status.

Comier Defeats Cole at Strikeforce Challengers 13

Daniel Cormier defeated a tough competitor in Devin Cole by unanimous decision last friday night at the Strikeforce Challengers 13 event. Cormier dominated the action from start to finish. Comier began by testing his striking landing several very hard overhand rights that would have put most opponents to sleep, but to Cole's credit he stayed in the fight. Cormier then took the action to the mat and stayed busy while maintaining top position. The final two rounds were a repeat of the first with Cormier landing punches to start the rounds and then using his wrestling to dictate that the fight would go to the ground and stayed busy with ground and pound to win each round convincingly.

With this resounding victory over the veteran Cole, Cormier will be in contention to be one of the alternates for the upcoming Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix.

Daniel Cormier fights friday on Showtime

Lafayette native and two-time Olympic wrestler, Daniel Cormier (6-0) will try to keep his mma record unblemished friday night Jan. 7 against tough veteran fighter Devin Cole (18-8-1).  Cormier will take a step up in competion as Cole has battled many of the sports top fighters such as Jeff Monson, Mike Kyle, Travis Wiuff, Allen Goes, Ben Rothwell, Krzysztof Soszynski, and Rafael "Feijao" Cavalcante. The Strikeforce Challengers 13 event will take place in Nashville, TN and will be televised on Showtime at 10pm CT during this weekend's Showtime "free preview weekend".  War Cormier!!!
